Cold weather can affect Scoliosis recovery and have a negative affect on our bodies – or at least it feels that way. You feel stiffer than you did during the summer, your mood may be down too due to less sunlight, and you may also feel muscle and tissue pains. Overall, scoliosis patients and everyone else will a bit more brittle when cold weather hits.

All of those symptoms will make it a little slower to get going out of the bed or car. It’ll also make it harder to get your  brace on and off without help. We recommend some common sense when it comes to taking care of your bones in the winter: dress warmly and sleep warmly. Keep your bones as padded and comfortable as possible – away from the freezing cold temps outside.

Still sore or stiff and need to get going in the cold?

  • Use a heat wrap around the painful area to relax it.
  • At the end of the day, soak away your sore muscles in a hot bath.
  • Make sure you stretch once out of the bath to keep your muscles flexible as they cool back down.

Overall, our recommendation is to try to keep warm for as much of the day as possible if the cold weather is causing you pain AND consult a doctor. Consider using the methods we listed (above) and the winter may go by easier. Do you have any other questions? Let us know.
